NPCs

NPC Information

This is a list of all the NPCs that are in [community profile] haibanerenmei. If your character needs to have a conversation with any of them, leave a comment here linking to the thread where they are needed, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

- Rakka

One of the four older Haibane living at Old home. She is technically the youngest, having arrived the most recent before the PCs, but she has already taken over some of the important household duties of Old Home. She is the one who greets the New Feathers, and also makes their halos for them. Her job is at the temple, though nobody knows just what it is she does there.

- Nemu

The oldest Haibane at Old Home, both in appearance and in years present in Glie. She is responsible and gets her work done, but she has a tendency to fall asleep sometimes. Along with Rakka, she handles a lot of the household duties at Old Home, including cooking and caring for the Young Feathers. She also works at the library in town.

- Kana

Another resident of Old Home. She is very excitable, and loves working with machines. She works at the clock tower in town.

- Hikari

Another resident of Old Home, and she appears to be the youngest of the 'older' Haibane. She is a touch air-headed, but her heart is in the right place. She works at the bakery in town.

Job Board

Job Board

This is where you can find out what jobs are available. Please check back every so often, as the job postings will change frequently.

If a job does not list a maximum number of employees, then that means any number of people can take that job. If there is a maximum number listed and all of those spots are filled, then that job will not be available.

Jobs are divided up by the region of Glie they can be found in. Any job marked with a * are jobs that young Haibane (10-14-years-old) can possibly work.

Housing

Housing

All Haibane must live at one of the available Haibane nests. Each Haibane is assigned a room within one of these nests upon entry, though they can move to another room or nest at any time.

Rooms listed with a name struck through them are rooms that were previously occupied by characters who have been dropped, idled out, or who have reached their Day of Flight. The previous character's belongings are still present in the room. These rooms will not be assigned to newly apped characters, but anyone is free to move into them if they wish.

Current Nests

Old Home

Old Home is on the southern side of Glie, just south of the city proper. It takes approximately an hour by foot to go from Old Home to the Central Plaza. It has been abandoned for some time, and most rooms are filled with old furniture and boxes and dust. Each room will have to be cleaned out before it can be used.

Old Home is made up of several buildings. On the South side is the entrance gate and the building where the Young Feathers live. Connected to that building is a small building for showering. Since there is only one big room for showering, certain times are slated for boys and girls use.

On the south side is the entryway and a smaller, two-story building, which is where the young feathers live. They are the Haibane who appear to be too young to stay in their own room (10 or under). Young characters that are apped in will be initially assigned to this building, but have the option of moving into their own room later if they can prove their maturity to the NPCs.

To the West is one long building. Half of the first floor has been made into a kitchen and dining area, and the rest of the building consists of small, one-person rooms. There are ten rooms on each floor (excluding the first floor, which has six), and four floors in total.

To the East is another long building of similar structure to the western building, except that the first floor is entirely rooms, and there is a small clock tower attached to the southern side of the building.

To the North are two more buildings, identical in structure to the Eastern building. The more northern of the two (North-1) is partially damaged and currently unavailable for housing, but can be repaired.

The West, East, and North-2 buildings all have the room windows facing the courtyard. North-1 has windows facing the outer wall, which has a large hole in it. Each building has staircases at both ends, and rooms only on one side. To see a general layout of how the floors look, click here.

Young Feather Building

Residents: Neuro (Conan Edogawa)

Abandoned Factory

The factory is on the eastern side of Glie, in the manufacturing district. The exterior of the factory seems very run-down, but the inside has been modified to be a living space. Because of the location, it is not a good space for children to live in, and because of that any young feathers hatched in the factory are sent to Old Home until they are older.

There are three sections to the factory: the main building, the north wing, and the south wing.

The main building is further back from the entrance. It is three stories tall, with the main floor serving as a common area. There is a kitchen, a dining area, a bathroom and shower area, and a large living room full of old couches and chairs. You can see the layout here. The second and third floor consist of several rooms, and are arranged this format. 1-8 on each floor are single occupancy, 9-12 are double-occupancy. The main building connects to the north and south wings on the third floor.

The north wing has two floors of open space and machinery, and one floor of rooms. Unlike the evenly-built rooms of the main building, these rooms seem to have been cobbled together haphazardly, and are not equal in size. The floor plan for the north wing also has numbers in parenthesis, which show the occupancy of each room. If there is more than one number (IE: 2-3), then the smaller number is how many can comfortably fit in the room, and the larger number is how many can fit in with the space being a bit cramped. The floor plan for the north wing can be found here.

The south wing has two floors of open space and machinery, and one floor of rooms, with a small section of a fourth floor near the end of the wing. As with the north wing, the rooms are all different sizes, and can fit different numbers of residents in them. The floor plan for the south wing can be found here.

AC FAQ

AC FAQ

This page is meant to explain how AC works, and will be linked on every Activity Check post.

AC is posted on the 1st of every month, and runs until the 5th.

Instead of having a set comment count, AC is based on character development. For each AC, every person must fill out the following form and post it to that month's AC post.

Player Name: your name
Character Name: use their true name for this part
Canon: the canon your character is from
Summary: In this section, describe what development your character has undergone.
Links: Link threads to show where this development has happened.

If you post to AC but the summary or links are not adequate, then you will be told as much and given a chance to fix your AC. If your AC is not fixed, or if you try to fix it and it is still inadequate, then you will be given a warning.

If you do not have enough AC, you can post to the AC post saying as much. This will get you a warning.

If you fail to respond to the AC, you will be swept from the game.

AC Questions

What constitutes 'character development'? - There are two possibilities for this.

The first is that your character should make some sort of progression towards completing their trial. It can be something big, like a huge breakthrough regarding their personal issues, or something small, such as a conversation while cooking dinner. As long as your character is interacting with others and learning something new about themselves or the people around them in some way, then that will count for development.

The other possibility is progressing your character towards being sin-bound. This would involve a rejection of their trial, and negative development that pulls them away from successfully completing it. Just as with above, it could be small threads, as long as it shows that the thread in question is having some kind of negative impact on the character.

You can also go back and forth on this (Up to three times total while a character is here. So they could start out normal, go sin-bound, then go back to normal. Or go sin-bound, normal, sin-bound, normal.), but a switch from one to the other must involve a moment that is extremely important to the character. Becoming sin-bound is a very serious thing, and it takes something particularly traumatic or damaging to send someone on that path. Similarly, it takes a particularly strong moment to break someone from that path of sin.

So, as a simplified guide to acceptable AC, answer the following:

1: Is your character progressing in some way toward either completing their trial or becoming sin-bound?

2: Is your character learning something new about themselves, someone else, or the setting?

3: Is your thread somehow memorable to your character? (IE everyday 'cooking dinner' threads would not be memorable, but 'cooking dinner with character X' or 'trying a new recipe' or 'whoops I wasn't paying attention and my normally-delicious dinner is now ruined' would be)

If you can answer 'yes' to any of these questions, then the thread would count for AC. (As a note, if the thread only fits part 3, you will have to explain how it is memorable to your character.)

How many comments do I need to pass AC? - We are not looking for a specific number of comments, but it should be enough to show the development that is described in the summary section.

Do threads linked have to be from this current month? - Yes. The comments must take place during the month of that AC. The posts that the comments are from must be from the last two months. So, if a post was made in January and a thread from it continues into February, then the February comments can be used for February AC. However, if a post is made in December and continues into February, then those comments cannot be used for AC.

Additionally, if a thread was used for AC previously, then it cannot be used again.

Is there a limit to the number of threads I can link? - Nope! You can use as many threads as you like.

What if a thread is not done when AC goes up? - Then we will judge AC based on what has already been posted. Please note that, if a thread has not yet reached the point where it influences your character's development, then it will not count for showing that development.

Can I handwave development? - You can, but any development that has been handwaved cannot be used for AC.

How do hiatuses affect AC? - If you hiatus for 10 or more days during a month, then you do not need to provide AC for that month. If you hiatus through an AC, then you must pass the next two ACs without a hiatus.

If you are on hiatus during the time AC is up, but you still have less than 10 days of hiatus during the month of AC, then you will need to post your AC when you return from hiatus.

Do new characters get a pass on AC? - Yes. You do not have to post AC for the month your character is accepted in. You will need to post a 'check-in' comment during AC, but that is it.

Application

APPLICATIONS

Applications are: CLOSED

Fill out the following form and post the application below. Please post your applications as comments to this post, rather than as a link to another page.

By applying to this game, you are saying that you have read all of the information pages, and you agree with the rules as they have been presented.

PLAYER INFORMATION

Name: The name you want to go by
Age: You must be over 16 to play in this game.
Contact: Some way of contacting you. AIM, plurk, a journal to PM, an email, etc.
Current characters: Characters you currently have in this game.

CHARACTER INFORMATION

True name: The character's name in canon
Given name: The name they are given in-game. Be sure to explain the significance behind the given name, as well as how it is connected to the cocoon dream.
Canon: The name of their canon
Canonpoint: The point at which you are apping them from, as well as how they died at that moment.
History: A link will suffice, but be sure to write it out if there is no history available elsewhere.

Personality: This part should consist of two clear sections: their personality in canon, and how they will act within the game. If there are any differences between the two, be sure to explain why that is. This is one of the sections we will be judging heavily, so do not skimp here.

Powers: List any powers they have. Only powers that are listed here can be regained via memories.
Memory bank: This section should be linked to a memory bank in your character's journal. At this point, you do not need to have all of your memories fully written out; a short title or summary of each one (except for the two used as samples) will be enough. Any memories that are headcanon must be labeled as such. There is no upper limit on the number of memories you may have in the memory bank, but the minimum is 20.
Job: The job you would like your character to start out with. Please refer to the job board to see what jobs are currently available. If the job you are requesting is a limited-spot job, please be sure to list two backups, in case your first choice is filled.
Dream: Describe your character's cocoon dream. This should relate to their trial in some way, and serve as a clue to what they need to do to complete their trial. This dream will be their defining moment until they begin to regain memories, so put plenty of details into it.
Trial: What is the trial your character will be facing? What regret do they have, unfinished business they have to fulfill, or character flaw they need to overcome? This should be personal to themselves, and a trial that can be completed within the game. Additionally, describe your general idea for what you will have your character do to complete that trial. And, if you want to have them struggle at completing their trial, describe the difficulties they will have. You do not have to stick with this plan completely, but ideally you should be using it as a guide for what you will be doing with your character, so we want to see some thought put into it. We will be judging this section heavily, so do not skimp on details.

SAMPLES

Memories: Pick two of the memories from your memory bank and write them out completely. Each memory should have a specific point to it (to remind your character of a specific skill they have, or an important detail of their previous life that will help them with their trial), but should also be fragmented and difficult to understand without some thought put into it. Also, no names or clear faces should be present within the memories. For example your character can remember that they are a parent, but they cannot remember what their kids look like, or what their names are. These memories should also be listed in your memory bank, for use later when your character begins to regain memories.

RP sample: Pick one of the following:

1: link at least 30 comments from the test drive. This can be over more than one thread.

2: Write out a log starter as if your character has been present in the game for over a month. You can use prompts from the test drive, or come up with ideas on your own.

Reserves/Applications FAQ

Reserves and Applications FAQ

Please read through the entirety of this page before going to the reserves or applications! It contains important information about apping to Haibane Renmei.

When are reserves and applications open? - Reserves and applications are currently open.

For the most part, reserves and applications will remain constantly open, and will be processed as they are received. However, during certain important events within the game, apps will be temporarily closed.

Who can I app? - You can app any character from any canon, so long as they fit the following guidelines:

- The canon itself must either be completely finished, or at least 3 months since the release date of the first part/episode (in the case of ongoing canons).
- The character must be over the age of 10. Special exceptions can be made in certain cases, but you must get mod permission ahead of time.
- The character must have enough canon to fill up at least 3/4ths of their memory bank with canon memories (a minimum of 15 out of 20 memories).

In addition to these Original Universe (OU) characters, you may app an Original Character (OC) of your creation. At this time, we do not accept Alternate Universe (AU) characters.

What about characters who have a very limited presence in canon? - If your character has a limited presence in canon, but you can come up with at least 15 memories for them, then you can app them as an OU and fill in the gaps with headcanon. Otherwise, they would not be appable at this time.

What about nonhumans? - Any nonhumans will be humanized (Haibane-ized, technically) during their stay in Glie. Their memories can consist of them in their original forms, but they will not initially realize that they are not human.

My character needs X to survive. What do? - Your character no longer needs X to survive, since they are now humans and all. So vampires don't need blood, for example.

How about headcanon? - 75% of the app must be entirely based on things that show up in canon. For the other 25%, headcanon is allowed, so long as the headcanon fits with what we know about the character (IE it does not directly contradict something from canon).

Do characters keep their powers? - Sort of. Powers are initially blocked, but once a character regains a memory of one of their powers, they will be able to use that power. This must be done for each individual power a character has. For example, if you app Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender, it would take four separate memories for him to regain all four types of bending. Particularly complicated powers may take more than one memory to regain. Using A:TLA as an example again, one memory would give Toph her earthbending back, but it would take her a second memory to be able to metalbend.

As a note, if your character misuses their powers, their powers will be blocked for a short period of time. They will have to go through IC development to show that they will not misuse their powers again in order to get them back.

True names, given names, how do they work? - A 'true name' is a character's name from canon. A 'given name' is the name a Haibane is given when they arrive in Glie. In canon, Haibane are given their names by the other Haibane in their nest. However, to make things run more smoothly, we are having the names be a part of a character's only memories prior to their entry into Glie.

A Haibane's given name is directly related to their cocoon dream. For example, if a character dreams that they are sleeping among a bed of lilies, then they might be named Lily. In canon, the given name is also related to a Haibane's trial, and serves as a clue to what they need to do. However, we recognize that this is not always easy to do, and will not be requiring it. If you can link your character's name to both their cocoon dream and their trial, then awesome. If you can only link it to their cocoon dream, then that is alright too.

How do reserves work? - If you reserve a character, then you will be given priority for that character. Your reserve will be good for 7 days, from the moment the reserve is confirmed by a mod.

Are there app challenges? - No.

My 7 days are up. Can I renew my reserve? - No. Once your reserve has expired, you must wait at least 14 days before reserving again. However, you do not need a reserve to apply, so you may post your application at any time.

My app was given a revision. How long do I have to do the revisions? - you have 48 hours to do the revisions and get them back to us.

My app was rejected. Can I app again? - You must wait 14 days, but after then you can app them again. As a note, if your app was rejected, then you may not reserve the character until the end of the 14 day waiting period. Also, if your app is rejected twice, then you may not try again for that same character.

Setting

The City of Glie

click for a larger image of the map

The city of Glie is a large area consisting of the city proper and the surrounding lands. The entire area is walled off, and the only official way in or out is through the main gate to the north.

Within the City

Main Gate - The doors to the outside, which are currently sealed off. There are small doors near the gate that do open to the outside, but they only open for the traveling caravans run by the Toga that sell goods to the townspeople.

Main Gate Square - When the caravans come to Glie, they set up shop in the area right around the gate itself becomes a temporary marketplace. This area is known as the Main Gate Square.

Central Plaza - The main gathering area of the city of Glie. It is usually full of townspeople during the day. At the center of the plaza is the clock tower.

Clock Tower - A great clock tower right at the center of the central plaza.

Main Street - The main road running through Glie. It connects the Main Gate Square and the Central Plaza, and also continues south to the edge of town. It is very large and full of shops.

Library - A large, multi-level building not far from the Central Plaza. The books inside were all brought to the town by the Toga, but despite being from the outside world they do not seem to contain any information about Glie itself or the outside world, beyond general knowledge subjects such as nature, animals, and so forth.

Other Stores - There are a wide variety of shopping venues, such as bakeries, cafes, and used clothing stores.

Southern Glie

Old Home - One of the Haibane nests, making it one of the few places Haibane can live. It is a large dormitory consisting of several buildings, with the entrance facing the road to the south. More information can be found on the housing page. It is primarily full of female Haibane, though a few male Haibane live here too.

Windy Hill - This is a hilly region near Old Home, which is full of the windmills that are used to generate power for all of Glie. They are quite old and need regular maintenance to stay running.

Western Woods - While there are woods all around Glie, particularly near the walls, the Western Woods are known for being very thick and easy to get lost in. Nobody should ever go into them after dark, and definitely not alone.

Chapel - Deep within the Western Woods, there are the ruins of an old church. Most of the church itself has been worn away by time, and only a few pillars, some stones, and an altar remain.

Marsh - It's a marsh at the southwest point of Glie, that runs right up to the wall. The river that divides Glie in half eventually empties into the marsh.

Haibane Renmei Temple - A large temple to the west of Glie, near a waterfall. This temple is the home of the Haibane Renmei, the secret organization within Glie that seems tied to the Haibane.

Graveyard - A graveyard near the temple. This is possibly where either the townsfolk or the Haibane Renmei are buried when they die.

Western Glie

Factory Area - This is the industrial section of Glie. There are many factories here that produce a variety of goods, which are sold to the Tora when they visit Glie.

Abandoned Factory - A second Haibane nest. This one is for both male and female Haibane. See the housing page for more information.

Farming District - An area consisting of several farms, which grow the food for Glie.

Abandoned House at the Farming Village - A third Haibane nest. Unlike the other two, this one was completely abandoned prior to the start of the game, and thus no NPC Haibane live there. For more information, see the housing page.

More locations and details will be added as they are revealed in-game.

Rules

BE RESPECTFUL

While we all come from different backgrounds and have different opinions, it is important to be respectful of each other. We expect all players to show others respect, and to handle any disagreements with care. If there are any problems that cannot be handled by players alone, please approach a mod for help. We will gladly step in to help wherever we are needed, but that need must be brought to our attention via the mod contact post first.

BE ACTIVE

All players are expected to participate in a monthly activity check. Failing this activity check could result in removal from the game. More information about AC can be found here at the AC FAQ.

BE AGE APPROPRIATE

While characters can be younger, all players must be 16 or older. Only players who are over the age of 18 can participate in threads with adult content. All questionable content must be warned for and, if in a top post, must be put behind a cut.

BE IC

The main focus of this game is character development, and characters will change over time. That said, they should still be recognizable as the characters they are. Keep your characters IC, and be sure to post to the monthly AC post.

IC ACTIONS = IC CONSEQUENCES

Because of the focus on character development, IC actions will yield IC consequences, both positive and negative in nature. Players are expected to follow through on the consequences for whatever actions their characters take. Avoiding consequences for IC actions can be grounds for a strike, depending on the situation.

NO INFOMODDING

Players will be privy to a lot of information about the setting long before the characters find it out. Blocks of text in this font and color right here are known OOCly to players, but not yet ICly to characters. Information in this font and color right here was previously not known ICly, but has since been revealed to the characters, so long as their character has an IC reason for knowing that information (IE they were present when the information was revealed, or someone who knows it has talked to them about it). Referencing any 'blue text' information ICly can result in a strike. Referencing any 'green text' information ICly when your character does not have the means to know it can result in a warning.

(As a note, if anyone is colorblind and is having trouble seeing the difference between the 'blue text' and 'green text', please let us know.)

WARNINGS, STRIKES, AND BANS

Depending upon the severity of the incident, rule-breaking will result in either a warning, a strike, or a ban.

Warning - You can have one warning at any given time. Warnings go away after six months. If you currently have a warning and break another rule, regardless of severity, the punishment will automatically be a strike.

Strike - You can have up to two strikes at any given time. Strikes do not go away. Depending on the severity of the offense, strikes can be given automatically, even if the player does not currently have a warning.

Ban - If a player receives three strikes, they are permanently banned from the game. Depending on the severity of the offense, bans can be given automatically, even if the player does not currently have any warnings or strikes.
